Real Life Example
Name: Peter
Age: 32 years
"I have had asthma for about a year. I had a blue inhaler,
then a brown, then a green, then a different brown. I was totally confused
by what to use when, even though I understood a bit about how they worked
from leaflets I had been given. My doctor was very good and would explain
things to me but I would always forget the answers. I would also forget
the things I planned to ask him at the next visit by the time I got there!
In the end I made a list of questions to take with me. I was determined
not to go without answers to each and every one! I now keep a record of
any changes to my medications at each visit. It has helped me feel much
more on top of things".
Comments
The medications for asthma, and in particular the different
inhaler devices, are a common cause of confusion for many people. In our
example, Peter dealt with this problem by making a list of questions for
his doctor before the next visit. This is an excellent idea, not only for
questions about treatments but any other general or specific questions or
concerns you have about your asthma. The time with the doctor is often short;
it can be difficult to remember things you want to ask on the spur of the
moment. You can find out general information on treatments for asthma and
the different inhalers in the section Treatment
or Cure? |
