Your feelings and views about your asthma are very important. They can affect how well you deal with your condition. This, in turn, can have a major impact on your life by affecting how well you are. The views of relatives, friends and society in general can be equally important for similar reasons.

There are many feelings commonly experienced by people with asthma. You will undoubtedly have felt some or all of these at one time or another: from denial to confusion, anger, embarrassment and fear. No-one enjoys having anything less than perfect health, so not surprisingly, many feelings about asthma are negative ones. It is essential to take a positive approach to dealing with your asthma. However, as you will know, whether you have asthma or it is a friend or member of your family, this is easier said than done!

In this topic we will explore some of the common feelings about asthma and consider different ways to deal with them. Click on each of the feelings below for real-life examples.

Note: The examples in this section are all hypothetical. Each one uses a fictitious person and situation to illustrate common feelings and views about asthma and how they might be dealt with.
