What is the best way to monitor my asthma?
The best way is to spend a small amount of time each day noting down things relating to your asthma and how well you are. Exactly what you record will depend on your individual asthma and your reasons for home monitoring. This is explained more fully in What Should I Monitor? All you need are a standard diary card or the Asthma Assistant Application to make your records as explained in the questions below.

What are asthma diary cards?
These are standard cards where you can note down things relating to your asthma on a daily basis. The diary cards normally have a chart for you to plot peak flow. On some cards there is also room for you to note down symptoms and how much medication you have used each day. A number of standard diary cards are produced, mostly by drug companies. These are widely distributed to doctors and other health professionals who care for people with asthma. Most of the cards enable you to monitor your asthma for 4 or 5 weeks; sometimes they come in booklet form enabling you to record for 2 or 3 months. Many doctors surgeries or asthma clinics will be able to give you one of these and show you how to monitor your asthma.

What is the Asthma Assistant Application?
The Asthma Assistant is a unique computer program which has been designed for you to monitor and record your asthma. It has numerous advantages over using a diary card. You can find out more about the program by going directly to the topic Asthma Assistant Application.
