Blue ones, brown ones, purple ones, round, tall, big, small, are but a few descriptions for the different inhalers containing medications for asthma. This can be confusing to say the least and surely a tablet would be much better? Surprisingly, in most cases, the answer is a definite no!

Inhalers are much better than tablets because their are fewer side effects and the medication works more quickly. There is a need for a range of devices, including aerosols, spacers, autohalers and dry powder inhalers because not everyone can use the same one. The colours are often a way of coding so that people can identify easily and quickly which type of medication each one contains. The device you use should result from a joint decision between you and your health professional based on which you prefer and use most accurately.
