(1) Always question
your doctor or nurse about your treatments and ensure you know the following:
a. What you have been given
b. How it works
c. Why you have it
d. When to use it
e. How to take it
g. How much to take.
h. How long to use it for
(3) Ask your doctor to write down any instructions on using your medications.
(3) Discuss any fears or concerns about your medication with your doctor
or nurse. Do not believe all you read or hear from the media or other sources.
(4) Take your preventer regularly to stay well. Try to tie it in with your
daily routine to help you remember.
(5) Always brush your teeth then rinse and gargle after using your preventer
to reduce any possible side-effects.
(6) Monitor you asthma at home to make sure your current medications are
keeping you as well as possible.
(7) Make sure you always carry your reliever inhaler with you; you never
know when you may need it!
(8) Never stop your medications without consulting your doctor first; this
could be dangerous.
(9) Have your inhaler technique checked regularly. It is easy to fall into
bad habits and you may need a different type of inhaler if you asthma or
situation changes.
(10) If you want to try out a complementary therapy, discuss your choice
with your doctor or nurse in advance and make sure you see a fully qualified
therapist.
(11) Monitoring your asthma at home can help ensure your are on the minimum
amount of medication need to keep you well. |
