Every parent wants their child to achieve their full potential at school. There is no reason why the majority of children with asthma should not achieve their goals. As a parent, the key is to work in partnership with the school to help ensure asthma does not unnecessarily hamper your child's progress.

Taking your child for regular check-ups to the doctor or nurse, and the correct use of medication can help you child to remain well. This will reduce the chances of an asthma attack at school. Inform the school about your child's asthma by making personal contact, explaining the medications s/he takes and any known triggers. Ideally, all schools should have some kind of school asthma policy, and at the very least, children should have access to their reliever medication at all times with all staff knowing what to do in the event of an asthma attack.
